Publications- Being published for recognized expertise is a genuine accomplishment for any writer and better yet, it’s easy to verify. A good writer will usually try to get their works published, either in some sort of resume or career book or on a respected website that displays career articles. A good writer is proud of their work and likes to see it in print. A good writer can back up claims of publications merely by sending you copies of articles or directing you to links where they are featured. Even if someone’s work is not featured in any public publication, either on the web or in a book/magazine, articles on their site will give you a good understanding of their writing style and knowledge of the industry (or lack thereof). Conclusion – If someone touts their publications, ask for proof or copies. Easy enough.
A poorly qualified candidate with an elegant, professional looking resume may get called for a job interview, while a stronger candidate can be left behind because of poor resume aesthetics or subpar presentation, and no one will ever know. About 40% were average and only 10% were effective selling resumes. Most resumes are narrative, unfocused and are not ”selling resumes”. A Selling resume is at least 31% more likely to land interviews, 40% more likely to receive a job offer, and 38% more likely to be contacted by recruiters, compared to an average resume. A Selling resume is about 70% more likely to get interviews than a poor resume.
Work Experience – Work history will typically begin on the first page of a resume and for most people will make up the bulk of resume content. Work experience needs to list most recent roles first, and include organisation, position and dates employed. Also included should be responsibilities and achievements. This should not be an exhaustive list, but should include those of greatest importance and those aligned to the position description. Be sure to include achievement outcomes and metrics if possible, as they will lend weight to your assertions. More emphasis should be placed on recent roles, or previous roles that are aligned with the position being applied for. Older and less relevant roles simply need organisation, position and dates employed.
Job of the Resume Writer. A resume writer should not only write a resume, but he should do it well. But this is not the only function which a writer is trained to do. A good writer of resumes molds the resume according to the job description. This however, does not mean that the resume is a lie. It simply highlights and aligns the qualities of the applicant with what the potential employers are looking for. This is something an average person with no experience is unable to do. They have no ideas as to how they should highlight their strengths to suit the employer’s needs. But a professional writer of resumes is aware of industry buzz words; the job related key words etc. and will be able to use these to the maximum advantage of the applicant. Selecting a Good Resume Writer. The selection of a good writer is not as easy as expected. Unfortunately, there are too many online resume writing services which offer bogus information and as a result applicants are led astray. With the proper selection process, applicants will be able to select their writers easily.

In addition, few people are highly skilled as a writer, and poorly written sentences with numerous spelling and grammatical errors can create a poor impression. You have to keep in mind the fact that when you send out a resume it is taking your place and represents you as a person, without the guarantee of securing an interview – and that means your resume can make or break your job prospects before you ever get to speak to someone about it.
In my research, I’ve seen more websites than not who claim to offer outstanding resumes without any proof at all. I’ve even gone as far as contacting these companies to request a sample and have been told that since ”each client is different, a sample won’t help.” I don’t buy that – a good writer is a good writer, period and there should be nothing to hide. If you do see samples, make sure they are legible and not small graphics of what it will ”look like,” as you have to be able to read it! In addition to just looking impressive, the content must be doubly compelling, as it’s the content that drives the employer to pick up the phone, not just a pretty design. Most intelligent professionals, upon taking the time to review both presentation and content, are able to decide what whether or not a resume is compelling. Not seeing a sample is almost a sure sign that this service merely ”types” resumes rather than actually composing marketing documents designed to impress the employer. Conclusion – If you aren’t impressed with the samples or don’t see any at all, it may be best to keep on looking!
