Representative Work- If one were to order a piece of jewelry, art or furniture, a savvy consumer will want to review the talent first, right? Nobody wants to spend money on an item without seeing samples of items or products that the ”artist” has produced. This is by far, one of the most telling tales of a resume service’s quality. Without viewing their resumes, how can you be sure that their resumes are really ARE ”the best” or the ”most successful?”
Quality of Site- A good resume service should be hosting a highly professionally designed site as they are in the business of making strong first impressions! A quality site is one that offers the visitors valuable information, not just sales pitches. Sure, all companies need to market themselves but the site should also address the visitor’s needs. Most respected services include numerous links related to ”FAQs,” career expertise in the form of articles, resume samples, clear pricing and service explanations, an ”About Us” page, testimonials and stated credentials. The site should be visually pleasing, easy to navigate, contain its own URL (much more credible than ”freehomepage/townshipmain/resumesbyjan.htm”), contain well-written content and of course, spark your interest. Homemade sites are easier to spot – they are just one-page jobs claiming cheap pricing and not much else. Conclusion – First impressions in this instance are usually spot on; if you aren’t impressed, don’t bother.
Take Your Resume Seriously – As previously stated, if you don’t take your resume seriously then your resume will not be TAKEN seriously. If you choose not to work with a professional, then at the very least have an impartial third-party edit it for you and give you some constructive feedback. This is for your own sake. What happens when you accidentally type ”Manger” instead of ”Manager”? Do you think Spell Check is going to bail you out? Whatever you do, don’t send it out to potential employers without having someone else look it over. Some people just need to swallow their pride because when it comes right down to it, you may be the best at what you do, but if you don’t write resumes for a living then chances are there’s someone out there more qualified to write your resume than you are. Please consider that if you’re serious about being taken seriously!
Tip 3. A Simple Resume Format and Resume Template Work Best. A lot of the initial resume review process may be done using software tools as discussed above. This software typically scans a resume for specific sections of information, such as profile or summary, work experience, education, training, etc. If the software can’t identify where information is in your resume, it is likely that the information you worked so hard to put in your resume will just be skipped over. Rarely will you get a second chance from an in-person reviewer. So keep your resume format simple to avoid having any issues with software tools used by potential employers. Tip 4. Present Your Work Experience in a CAR. Not a literal car, but an acronym CAR to help guide your resume writing. First, for each position listed on your resume, provide a short paragraph that describes your roles and responsibilities. This tip is designed to make sure you use keywords related to the position that the software may be searching for in your resume. If done correctly, it should allow your resume to earn a higher ranking in the system.
22. Why are the Employers Using Scannable Resumes? Scannable resumes have advantages for employers: Employers can simply search through their database and identify names with the specific experience, skills, and qualifications. Human Resource departments can be much smaller because this technology speeds up the entire hiring process. 23. What is an Online Resume? An online resume is a plain text document (*.txt) which can be cut-and-pasted into online forms. It can be used by resume builder because ASCII files are recognized by PC’s, Macintoshes, UNIX Workstations, and mainframe terminals. 24. Why do I need an Online Resume? You can build a resume in online version and to send it to companies who are soliciting resumes via e-mail. Frequently the companies who are calling for resumes want them in the form of a plain text document sent in the body of an e-mail message – NOT PDF, NOT MS WORD. 25. Can’t I just send my resume as an email attachment? Sending any attachments through email can be tricky, and the last thing you want to do is make a potential employer work to read your resume. There are many types of computer systems, increasing the risk that the program that you create your resume in will not be compatible to the computer of the receiver, making it impossible for them to open up the attachment. The online resume solves that problem as you import it directly into the text body of the email message. Its simple, plain text look is easy for employers to read through email.
4. Writing Experience Section: Write your most recent experiences first followed by your next most recent experiences. This order is called reverse chronological order. Avoid writing short and irrelevant experiences. Only list less relevant experiences if it is the case of filling employment gap. Make it well formatted and easily readable. List your each experience in numbered or bulleted format. Writing Education Section: 5. Writing Education Section: You must write your most relevant academic achievements in education section. You may also list the honors and awards you earned. If you done any professional, career oriented course/s you should also list them in Education and Training section.
